Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
A mental health nurse (RMN) is a registered nurse with specialist training in mental health nursing. An RMN works with people who suffer from various mental health conditions to help them recover from their illnesses or to assist them in leading a fulfilling life despite their ongoing symptoms.
Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD)
A Learning Disability Nurse, or RNLD for short, can be employed in any area of the health and social care sector. Learning Disability nurses work to ensure that the needs of adults and children with learning disabilities are met, helping them to maintain their physical and mental health and supporting them with daily activities.
Working in mental health requires a level of emotional resilience and self-awareness.
Often people’s behaviour can be difficult to understand or explain and can cause distress.
Mental Health Nurses & Learning Disability Nurses try and help individuals find meaning and understanding of their experiences and build coping mechanisms to prevent further relapses.
You will need compassion and empathy, qualities which you may have developed from your own experiences in life.
